Dr John Cripps is an Engineering geologist with about 50 years of experience mostly as an academic in the Department of Geology and from 2000 the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering at the University of Sheﬃeld. Now retired\, John is still active in research\, editing\, consultancy and geological conservation work.

DESCRIPTION:A GGA fieldtrip to the south-eastern Burren (Mullach Mór) takes place on Saturday 26th April\, 2025 (10am to about 4 pm). \nMeet at Gortlecka crossroads at 10 am (52.9967981N\, 9.0373889W; parking immediately to S of crossroads). Please note: car parking is limited so please take a lift if at all possible\, to reduce the number of cars & be kind to the environment. After car-pooling at the crossroads\, they intend travelling a short distance to the start point using a limited number of cars. \nIf you wish to participate\, please register no later than Tuesday\, 22nd April by emailing GGA (galwaygeology@gmail.com). DESCRIPTION:Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Distinguished Lecture – Tuesday 20th May 2025 at 6pm in the Haughton Lecture Theatre in the Museum Building\, Trinity College Dublin. \nThe talk is titled: “CO2 Storage Resource Management System – Application and Learnings from World’s First Booking” and will be delivered by Dr Paul Lyford. Paul is the Reserves and Resources Manager at Santos Ltd\, an Australian oil and gas company and the first to add CO2 Storage resources to the annual reserves report. \nPaul has over 30 years’ experience and has been involved in many field developments across Australia. He has a background in reservoir engineering\, operations\, planning\, strategy and commercial\, and holds a PhD in Engineering from University of Melbourne. His full bio\, and more details of the talk are included in the Flyer here. \nThere will be a chance to socialise afterwards with drinks in The Duke pub\, Duke Street.
