Institute of Geologists of Ireland Conference 2024

“Climate & Sustainability – the responsibility of the Geoscientist”

23 May and 24 May 2024, at The Ashling Hotel, Dublin 8

The Institute of Geologists of Ireland (IGI) are excited to announce their 2024 conference around the theme of Climate and Sustainability on the 23 May and 24 May 2024. Geoscientists play a crucial role in addressing climate change and promoting sustainability through their interdisciplinary approach to understanding the Earth’s systems.

The objective of the conference is to showcase how the geoscientist has responded to sectoral changes in Energy, Hydrogeology, Contaminated Land and Minerals to assist in developing and managing sustainability and circularity within these industries.

The Conference will touch on the following topics:

• Storage potential and technologies
• Flood and environmental insurance risk
• The EU Taxonomy Environmental Sustainability Classification system
• EU Mineral Requirements
• Mine Rehabilitation
• Planning Legislative reform
• Environmental Licensing reform

The conference will run over 2 days including a workshop on the Friday afternoon. As well as the lunch and coffee breaks, there will also be an opportunity to mingle with fellow conference attendees at a social event with finger food and refreshments, on the Thursday evening, immediately following the first day of the conference.
