Royal Irish Academy event – Geography and Geosciences in the School Curriculum

The Royal Irish Academy is pleased to be partnering with the Geographical Society of Ireland to host an evening panel event exploring geography and geosciences in the school curriculum.

Taking place during Geography Awareness Week 2025, on Wednesday, 19 November 2025 at 6.00 p.m (Followed by reception at 7.30 p.m.) at the Royal Irish Academy, 19 Dawson Street, Dublin 2, and online.

The panel discussion aims to draw attention to the importance of geography and geosciences in evolving school curricula, across primary, post-primary and higher education, and to highlight how these disciplines can support and enhance the renewed focus on education around climate action and sustainable development.

The event will be structured as a keynote delivered by Professor David Kaplan, Kent State University, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Dr Karen Keaveney, President of the Geographical Society of Ireland. The panel includes, among others, IGI President, Dr Siobhán Power of Geological Survey Ireland.
